The Soft SKills Of Coding
I enjoy coding, programming, scripting, or whatever you want to call it. I enjoy figuring out what I want my computer to do for me, and figuring out how to make my computer do what I want my computer to do for me.
As part of the bargain for work work, though, I also have to figure out how to tell people how to code. These are not the most enjoyable part of what I do. Not every software project can be a one-person thing, and not every software project need to be a one-person thing.
I do share the desire to remove barriers to coding. I don't miss the days where coding requires understanding of malloc and free, or the understanding between C string and Pascal string, or the understanding of pointers to pointers.
Or recursions. Or Tower of Hanoi.
But, I have no desire to change the sentence "tell people how to code" to "tell AI how to code." The goal of making coding easier should not be making it cheaper to hire a machine (instead of a human) to do your coding.
YMMV… of course.
